Bowman Enjoys Extended Honeymoon With Winnipeggers
Winnipeg –
One year after winning a resounding victory in the municipal election, Winnipeg
Mayor Brian Bowman continues to enjoy an extended honeymoon with the
electorate, a new Probe Research poll conducted on behalf of the Winnipeg Free Press finds.
Three-quarters of
Winnipeg residents approve of Mayor Bowman’s job performance to date (77%,
including 15% who strongly approve of his performance and an additional 62% who
moderately approve). Slightly more than one-in-ten do not believe Mayor Bowman
is doing a good job (12%, including 2% who strongly disapprove and 10% who
moderately disapprove). Eleven percent were unsure or did not respond.
Mayor Bowman’s current
level of popularity is roughly in line with the level recorded for the previous
mayor, Sam Katz, after 12 months in office. In September 2005, 76 percent of
Winnipeggers said Mr. Katz was performing very well or fairly well in the
mayor’s chair.
